Guided by its strategic plan, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Graduate School engaged Kennedy and Company to develop a custom graduate cost calculator to help its prospective students better understand differential costs associated with its programs. UNC-Charlotte also required lead generation capabilities and the ability to apply from the cost calculator.

The tool, which launched in the fall of 2024, takes into account various student types, program fees, and tuition charged to its students. In addition, indirect costs associated with a full cost of attendance are also displayed to users. The tool was designed to be dynamic, adjusting charges and other cost of attendance elements based on the number of credits a student intends to enroll in each semester. Likewise, students are able to update other elements, such as residency and program, to see the impact of their costs. Kennedy & Company worked collaboratively with a cross-section of stakeholders from UNC-Charlotte’s graduate school to launch its calculator.

This entailed feedback gathering from multiple departments during the testing phase, resulting in greater adoption and product buy-in throughout the graduate school. In just a few months of going live, UNC Charlotte’s graduate school experienced continued growth in users, from 57 the first month to over 375 in January 2025. The percentage of students providing contact information for lead generation remains strong as well, at over 70% of users.
